Thinking of giving up. No one wants to play the good fun creative games anymore, I'm a fossil. So there's no point in trying to get any games going, because no one ever plays them.
I will recode the whole chat someday, to make a game playing only chat program. If there is a tabletop game someone wants to play, get more than 10 players ... send me an email ... and prove they are all committed to playing. No more games for flakes.

Bored, and looking for a project.
I'm out of ideas, nothing I have made on my own is popular though everyone who tries my applets love the programs, they don't like the games. So, I have decided to look outward for something, anything. If you have a project idea but need a web designer and/or Java and server programmer, send me an email.
I can do complete web design, PHP and MySQL is my preferred scripting, and can pretty much write a program to do anything in Java or Python, though I tend to use Python to handle server side work. I could host a game as well, but if it grows too large I would have to ask to have the host account upgrades required to be split. Basically I am a programmer, but not much of a designer.

Check out the newest addition to RPGCN, for those who love to play Nintendo DS games but have a difficult time finding opponents, Nintendo DS Connections.

Announcing a purpose for the chat program: Nintendo wi-fi site!
Yes, a meet and greet site for the Nintendo DS systems to allow players to connect, create clubs and leagues, and chat. All ages friendly site.

You Decide!
Decide what game I should open up as a chat. My idea is another epic fail, so let me know. Post it in the forums if you want a particular RPG in a chat. Mekton, Call of Cthulhu, Elf Quest, name it! Original D&D even.

Testing a new module, choose your own adventures. Just type !adventures and one of the commands (list, begin, random, choice) to play, more will be added to the help later.

The server has been completely and successfully converted to Python ... so the server is Python while the client is a Java applet. One huge benefit is that now modules can be added, changed, and taken away without restarting the server. The new packages will be available soon, I will be dropping support for the Java Server as the resource requirements to run it are unreal. However, expect much more development for the Python server.
Mixing the two languages was a challenge, getting the Java and Python sockets to communicate actually turned out easier than I thought, just prepend the data being sent to Java with the number of bytes being sent in a low-order two byte value and ignore the first two bytes sent to Python (this last part will change to make a better system).
2009-12-16
Porting a Python version of the server due to high resource usage of the Java version. The client will still be Java applet, so still secure.

Currently the chat server is running, though if there is a problem it may be shit down again. Attempting to code it so it will work on all configurations without any problems, so expect a major update as soon as my medical problems are manageable again.
2009-12-09
Currently dealing with medical issues and there is a major error in the server app so I have to shut it down for now. Sorry.

Just found out (the hard way) that I have to tweak the image loading ... strangely the security in Java won't let it work the way I coded it to avoid caching the image. Will work on it soon.
2009-12-01
Minor update, now the canvas can have images from other locations loaded to it.

New Feature: Well, it's actually a new module feature now. When a die roll a made a note can now be sent to post with it. When using the GUI you can put your note in the text field then click on the roll button, if you prefer to type in the die rolls add a colon : then the note.
Logging will be enabled soon, as well as "back tracing" for clients and moderators to allow you to catch up in scenes if you fall behind because of a force log out.

New feature: modules. Using a few tricks I had discovered a long time ago I added a module feature to the server. For IRC programmers this is the advanced bots, allowing small programs to be added, however the Java security is not compromised. Test it out, there is a nanny bot in the Foyer that prevents you from posting most "swear" words. With minimal knowledge in Java programming you can add more modules to your own chat server. I will be updating the downloads soon, and adding in an Uno game to the demo server, with a simple AI you can play against if no one else is present.

Special request: I need an artist who wants to show off. One that specializes in Anime/Manga style. Send me an email if you are interested in getting exposure for your art and name. You will retain all rights to your work.

The packages in the Files section now include instructions, which I think explain it well. If you need help still, let me know. I will also work with those interested in setting up their own chats, email me with questions and I will answer them as soon as possible, or you can post questions in the forum.

The pinnacle of game chat struggles, now offered for free, an integrated, fully customizable, simple to use, character sheet. Yes, while in the chat you can access the characters now. To see how it looks, type /char Test into the text field, or just type Text and right click on the chat window for View Character.
Soon the variable fields will be editable by the owner and admins, for those stats that vary a lot. The database setup for the sheets is very easy and extremely versatile. I will type up the instructions for installing and running the server soon to include in the package.

A few new features to the site chat. Alternative sizes, if it's too big for you, use a smaller one. Popup window for the chat, if you want it in it's own window without menus and such in the way.
2009-11-24
A feature added which can help GMs is bots, simple codes that respond to keywords or commands for displaying information preprogrammed. Try it in the Foyer, type !help for a quick help, type something containing the word smile for a random treat.

First, inline help glitch fixed, though it has an interesting effect when you first open it, it works great now. Also the dice dialog is done.
NEW FEATURE! One I am very proud of and gloating a bit about. There is an open canvas for each room ... sort of. It's not a normal canvas as the image isn't stored in the server, instead when you open the dialog (use Execute) any new drawing on it will appear. Very simple shapes are all it does, but will help greatly when gaming.
2009-11-22
Inline help is now available in the chat, however, there is a minor annoying glitch, it doesn't paint right away. Once the popup for the help appears roll the mouse "wheel" a bit to make it appear. I will track down this glitch ASAP,

Beyond testing ... the chat is finished. Stability is on par with other online chats. Features have actually exceeded many chat systems. Security is on par. Customization has been implemented completely. Web site integration is easy.
Features added from here on out will be completely for aesthetic purposes to help gamers. Once the help popup is completed the next feature will be a cross-server canvas, allowing players to illustrate their gamin experience for maps and other such visual aids. Also an image popup and character sheet popups, for character management and viewing. This will all be developed for generic games, if you wish to see a specific game please let me know and send me a copy of the character sheet you prefer it was based on. Using the Java programming features it will be very easy to fully integrate character management, not just viewing, into the client. So please, let me know how to make this perfect.
If you can dream it, I can code it.
2009-11-21
Pretty major server and client update. Tightened the code, trimmed it a lot, it should run smoother now. It was growing sluggish and some random glitches were present. I believe I caught them all now though.
2009-11-21
Quick feature note, rooms can now have special icons and backgrounds. To see the special background join the Graveyard and select the connection. This feature can be turned off by the user, in the controls there is a setting for it.
2009-11-21
Major update, several custom settings in the applets to allow you to adjust colors have been added as well as login and logout automessages, check you account page to edit those.
Tweaked the die roller a bit, improved it as well as found a glitch. Also, lists now respond to the scroll button on you mouse, you can scroll through the lists that way (you will need to scroll on the controls now). The main chat window also allows you to scroll up, showing up to a hundred lines prior. Use the buttons on the side for quick scroll to the first and last messages.
Best of all, enjoy the chat. It's there for everyone right now.
2009-11-18
Chat is now functional. Feel free to use it for gaming, chatting, whatever, just do not abuse it. Thanks.
Notice: This chat is NOT IRC, it is completely Java based on an isolated and secure server. However, you will notice it has an IRC look and feel to it as well as many text commands.
2009-11-18
Chat in testing phase. Once it is finished I will announce it here and you will see some more information on the page.
2009-11-17
Announcement: Working on the Java chat program for this site now. It will be open not only to general chit chat but also gamers looking for a place to play games. Nothing fancy though, it will be simple, though it will have a built in dice roller for those who do want to meet up for games.
This will not be an IRC client, it will have it's own secure server. Also, it may one day expand to a full online gamer interface if there is interest in it. My next project will be an extension of this chat, so the two will work together.
